The Film Detective is Ringing in the New Year with a Month of Classic Comedy

The Film Detective is starting the New Year with new comedy marathons, new collections of classic film and television content, and new ownership by industry leader, Cinedigm

PRESS RELEASE UPDATED: DEC 28, 2020 11:00 EST

ROCKPORT, Mass., December 28, 2020 (Newswire.com) - The Film Detective (TFD), a classic media streaming network and film archive that restores and distributes classic films for today's cord-cutters and is now wholly-owned by Cinedigm (NASDAQ: CIDM), is dedicating the upcoming month to the lighthearted side of cinema. In a time of increased demand for at-home entertainment, The Film Detective is delivering the nostalgia of film’s favorite comics throughout the entire month of January.

Kicking off The Film Detective’s month of comedy will be a 48-hour New Year’s Laugh-a-thon, on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Laugh along with such timeless jokesters as The Three Stooges and Groucho Marx, starting at 12AM ET on Dec. 31.

The New Year’s Laugh-a-thon will also feature The Film Detective debut of The Carol Burnett Show (1967-1978) and The Marx Brothers TV Collection (1951-1976), courtesy of Shout! Factory.

The Carol Burnett Show (1967-1978) will join The Johnny Carson Show (1974-1986) in a new late-night line-up of classic television, available weeknights at 10:30 PM ET. Viewers will enjoy additional arrivals including Carol Burnett’s early starring role opposite Buddy Hackett in Stanley (1956-1957), The Jerry Lewis Show: TV Specials (1957-1962), Father Knows Best (1954-1960), and more - coming in 2021.

Keeping the laughter going throughout January will be actress Betty White, celebrating her 99th birthday on Sunday, January 17. The Film Detective will recognize the decades of entertainment White has brought to audiences on her birthday with a marathon of her first comedy sitcom, Life with Elizabeth (1953-1955).

The Film Detective’s January 2021 line-up comes as its first under the new ownership of leading independent distribution company, Cinedigm (NASDAQ: CIDM). The recent acquisition of The Film Detective by Cinedigm adds The Film Detective’s library, comprised of 3,000 content titles, an estimated 10,000 individual film and TV episodes, and two Free-Ad-Supported-Television (FAST) linear networks, into Cinedigm’s extensive portfolio of streaming channels and content.

“I am thrilled to reach this acquisition agreement with Cinedigm, which will give The Film Detective the firepower to grow our content library and streaming channels much faster than before,” said Phil Hopkins, The Film Detective Founder and CEO. “Cinedigm has been a long-term independent leader in quality content distribution and streaming and I believe their capabilities will help take this business I have built over the years to an even higher level.”

Blue Ant Media launches HauntTV on The Roku Channel in Canada

Editor's Note: This article uses content from multiple sources and blog posts... the Editor of @StreamOnABudget takes no credit for this post, all credit goes to the author(s) of the post at the sources following this article.

The media company views its debut in the FAST market as a unique offering in Canada.

Blue Ant Media has launched a free live streaming offering on The Roku Channel, a global ad-supported content distribution platform, as the Toronto-based media company looks to bring its ghostly programming to new audiences and monetize them.

HauntTV is a new 24/7 streaming channel lovers of all things spooky, with series such as Ghost Chasers (pictured), Ghostly Encounters and World’s Scariest Hauntings from Blue Ant’s library of original and acquired programming. The new channel is available to Canadians for free on all Roku devices.

HauntTV’s official launch signals Blue Ant Media’s debut in the Free Ad-supported Streaming Television (FAST) channels’ space in Canada.

“We are always looking at global trends – trends coming out of the U.S. and around the world – and we’re watching new distribution platforms launching, specifically in streaming video,” Jamie Schouela president of global channels and media at Blue Ant Media, tells MiC. “The FAST channels are offering content owners both a new window to monetize their series and connect with new audiences. The market is just now emerging in Canada and we believe it will quickly scale.”

According to Roku’s most recent quarterly financials, the streaming service had 46 million active accounts globally (up 43% year over year) who had streamed 14.8 billion hours of content since the service launched in 2017. (The Roku Channel became available in Canada in 2018.)

Schouela wouldn’t comment on The Roku Channel’s audience, saying only that it’s “broad.”

“We know there’s a passionate fan base who can’t get enough of our ghost content, and we believe The Roku Channel will introduce many viewers outside of the traditional TV ecosystem to them,” he says.

Schouela says Blue Ant doesn’t view the new offering as a horror-themed channel. He adds, “In the Canadian AVOD space, we believe HauntTV is unique because we’re all about catering to audiences who love ghost stories.”

Streamers can find HauntTV on The Roku Channel under the “Live TV” section on the streamer’s player or on Roku TV.

LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / December 17, 2020 / Cinedigm (NASDAQ:CIDM) announced the launch of The Bob Ross Channel on the Roku® platform. The channel, which allows viewers the opportunity to curate their own viewing experience, is easily downloadable through the Roku channel store and is powered by Cinedigm's proprietary Matchpoint Blueprint, a highly-scalable app development platform for OTT services.

Now available as a stand-alone app on Roku devices, The Bob Ross Channel features all 31 seasons of the popular "The Joy of Painting" television series in their entirety, containing approximately all 380 classic episodes and delivering over 100 hours of quality entertainment that is enjoyable for the whole family. In addition, a series of Bob Ross screensavers for television showcasing many of his paintings in full-screen, synchronized to music and organized by theme will be made available within the Roku app. Approximately a dozen Bob Ross Gallery View screensavers optimized for high-definition televisions will be made available at launch with more to be released on an ongoing basis.

Cinedigm continues to focus on bringing well-established brands and film & television content from leading content owners into the growing free ad-supported television marketplace. Opportunities for premium content remain strong within the OTT ad-supported space as traditional cable and satellite services continue to lose subscribers.

"We have seen great success with The Bob Ross Channel as a free ad-supported television channel confirming strong interest and demand for the legacy of Bob Ross," said Tony Huidor, Cinedigm's General Manager of Digital Networks. "We are proud to be associated with an icon of his caliber and to bring the entirety of his television series into the living rooms of his fans, new and old."

For 31 seasons, beloved painter, art instructor, and TV host Bob Ross captivated millions of viewers around the globe with his EMMY-winning hit series The Joy of Painting. The show first ran on public television stations in the United States, from 1983 to 1994, and has continued to broadcast on more than 150 public TV channels and on Create TV. Distributed by APT Worldwide, Ross' programs are also available in many countries ranging from the UK to Thailand, on airline flights and other platforms.

Though Ross passed away in 1995, his legacy lives on as the series continues to enthrall and inspire new generations of viewers - amassing a combined total of more than 5.5 million social media followers, as well as 5.6 million unique views on Twitch, nearly one million hours of The Joy of Painting consumed on Hulu, and an hour-long YouTube special that attracted over 2.5 million viewers.

From Classic to Campy - The Film Detective Announces the Return of the 25 Days of Christmas Classics

It's the most wonderful time of the year for classic film fans with The Film Detective's December line-up of festive favorites, every night at 8 pm ET.

NEWS PROVIDED BY
The Film Detective
Nov 30, 2020, 11:00 ET

ROCKPORT, Mass., Nov. 30, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The Film Detective (TFD), a classic media streaming network and film archive that restores and distributes classic films for today's cord-cutters is getting in the holiday spirit, announcing the return of the 25 Days of Christmas Classics, Dec. 1-25 at 8 pm ET.

Bringing both campy and classic content, TFD is proud to introduce the 1993 Mystery Science Theater 3000 roast of Santa Claus vs. The Devil (1959), in collaboration with Shout! Factory. Adding to the rocking (and schlock-ing) around the Christmas tree is the return of fellow cult classic Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964).

To pull at any viewer's heart-strings is the TFD debut of The Gift of Love: A Christmas Story (1983). Starring Angela Lansbury and Lee Remick, the Los Angeles Times praised The Gift of Love, saying "Lovely performances by Lee Remick and Angela Lansbury... luminous presence of Polly Holliday... make this a special that merits repeating in seasons to come."

Accompanying TFD's Christmas line-up are marathons to make the season merry and bright. The Film Detective will celebrate Dick Van Dyke's 95th birthday with episodes of The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961-1966) on Dec. 13 at 12 pm ET.

The Film Detective will also celebrate Christmas Eve with 24-hours of holiday movies, followed by 24-hours of Christmas TV-episodes on Christmas Day. With many spending the holidays at home this year, TV's favorite families including The Clampetts and Burns and Allen will certainly bring holiday cheer.

Fans will also find holiday cheer in the "Santa Claus Conquers The Martians DVD and 7" single" release, made in collaboration with Modern Harmonic, Something Weird Video, and The Film Detective. Pressed on Martian green vinyl, this festive treat features a 45 RPM 7" single of "Hooray For Santa Claus" from Milton DeLugg & The Little Eskimos alongside a rendition from The Fleshtones, TFD's print of Santa Claus Conquers The Martians on DVD, and festive oddities from the Something Weird vault.

To start the new year with a laugh, TFD will feature a 48-hour laugh-a-thon of classic comedy on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, including the TFD debut The Carol Burnett Show (1967-1978) and The Marx Brothers TV Collection (1951-1976).
