The Film Detective Celebrates Stars Under the Stars With Science Fiction Drive-In Classics in July

The Film Detective's Digital Drive-In is Blasting to Space With a Celebration of Classic Science Fiction Movies Ahead of Its Blu-ray and DVD Release of Flight to Mars (1951) on July 20

Cinedigm announced today that The Film Detective, the classic film restoration and distribution company, will be celebrating films from the science fiction genre throughout the entire month of July.

The Film Detective's month of Stars Under the Stars will include a different double-feature of science fiction drive-in classics every Friday at 8 p.m. ET. Featured classics will include Killers from Space (1954) starring Peter Graves, as well as the newly restored 4K transfer of Battle of the Worlds (1961) starring Claude Rains, coming in July.

The Film Detective will also be getting into the holiday spirit with a Christmas in July celebration of the "schlockiest" seasonal titles like Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964) and Santa Claus vs. the Devil (1959), mercilessly roasted by Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988-1999) and Cinematic Titanic (2007).

The Film Detective's science fiction celebration comes in anticipation of its 70th anniversary Blu-ray ($24.95) and DVD ($19.95) release of Flight to Mars (1951) on July 20. The release will include an out-of-this-world 4K transfer sourced from the 35mm Cinecolor separation negatives, beautifully restored by the Paramount Pictures Archive; special features including two brand new documentaries, Walter Mirisch: From Bomba to Body Snatchers and Interstellar Travelogues: Cinema's First Space Race, from Ballyhoo Motion Pictures; audio commentary with author/film historian Justin Humphreys; and a full-color booklet with essay Mars at the Movies from award-winning author Don Stradley. The Film Detective's Flight to Mars (1951) release comes as the third in a series of collaborations with The Wade Williams Collection

Coming to Serial Sundays on The Film Detective will be episodes from the classic serial Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe (1940), starring Olympian-turned-leading-man Buster Crabbe, every Sunday at 9 a.m. ET throughout July.

New arrivals on The Film Detective this month will include episodes from the second season of The Beverly Hillbillies (1961-1971) and the classic Max Fleischer cartoon Popeye the Sailor (1937-1957), coming to The Film Detective's Saturday morning cartoons. New feature film arrivals throughout July will include stunning new HD restorations of classics like Abbott and Costello's Jack and the Beanstalk (1952) and Films Around the World acquisitions including Graverobbers (1988) and Island Claws (1980). Coming to The Film Detective's 24/7 western channel, The Lone Star Channel, will be episodes from the 1960s western series Tate (1960), starring David McLean and guest starring Robert Redford.

The Film Detective Is Celebrating Film Loving Fathers And Grandfathers In Honor Of Father's Day

A Special Announcement From The Film Detective:

Happy Father's Day from The Film Detective!

This weekend, we're celebrating film loving fathers and grandfathers in honor of Father's Day. We know that the world's best Dads deserve the world's best TV marathons, so we're bringing 8 hours of Father Knows Best (1954-1960) to The Film Detective, this Sunday at 10:25AM ET!

From Radio to Television

We're heading to the town of Springfield, home of Jim Anderson, his wife Margaret, and their children, Betty, Bud, and Kathy.

From the far more sarcastic radio program to the small screen, only Robert Young remained from the cast of the radio program by the time the sitcom launched on CBS in 1954. Young would be joined by Jane Wyatt, Elinor Donahue, Billy Gray, and Lauren Chapin.

The Andersons Take the Emmys

Building the mold for the American sitcom family of the era, Father Knows Best took home six Emmy awards in its six seasons and over two hundred episodes, including three Emmy awards for Jane Wyatt and two for Robert Young.

Seventeen years after the conclusion of the series, the Anderson family returned to households for two TV reunion specials in 1977.

Fellow Fathers Share the Screen!

Robert Young as Jim Anderson would not be the only legendary TV Dad to appear on Father Knows Best.

The show also had multiple guest appearances from familiar fatherly faces, including Herbert Anderson who played Henry Mitchell in Dennis the Menace (1959-1963) and Robert Reed, famous for his portrayal of Mike Brady in The Brady Bunch (1969-1974).

Join us on Sling TV, Plex, DistroTV, and more for The Film Detective's Father's Day marathon this Sunday, June 20, at 10:25AM ET or stream Father Knows Best anytime on The Film Detective app.

CBC And BET+ Original Series 'The Porter' Now In Production

CBC AND BET+ ORIGINAL SERIES ‘THE PORTER’ NOW IN PRODUCTION

OLUNIKÉ ADELIYI (TITANS) AND LOREN LOTT (TAG) JOIN STELLAR ENSEMBLE CAST

June 17, 2021 – The highly anticipated start of production for Inferno Pictures and Sienna Films’ THE PORTER (8x60), a CBC and BET+ original series, is now underway in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Shooting across various locations as well as in studio, THE PORTER continues until mid-September.

Exciting new additions to THE PORTER cast include Oluniké Adeliyi (TitansAmerican Gods) and Loren Lott (American IdolTag). They join Aml Ameen (I May Destroy You, Yardie), Ronnie Rowe Jr. (Star Trek: Discovery, Pretty Hard Cases) and Mouna Traoré (Self Made, The Umbrella Academy) who were announced earlier this year. Plus, series originators Arnold Pinnock and Bruce Ramsay take on series regular roles of ‘Glenford’ and ‘Dinger,’ respectively.

Adeliyi portrays ‘Queenie’, the savvy, seductive and sinister crime boss in Chicago whose lavish lifestyle and power appeals to Junior, but at what cost?; while Lott plays headstrong ‘Lucy,’ a talented performer who yearns for the spotlight as she battles shadeism and an instinct for music that’s out of step with the times.

Set in the roaring 20s, THE PORTER offers a dramatic and compelling look at the Black community in St. Antoine, Montreal — known, at the time, as the “Harlem of the North”. The story is told through the eyes of two Black train porters taking very different paths to liberation. One pushes to create the first Black union in existence, the other chases power on the wrong side of the law, but both have the same goal: to free themselves and their families from oppression. They’re young, gifted and Black, from Canada, the Caribbean, and the U.S., and they find themselves thrown together north and south of the color line. In an era that boasts anything is possible, if change isn’t coming for them, they will come for it.

From Montreal to Chicago and at every stop in between, in a time of extraordinary social and political change, THE PORTER tells the story of the people who fought to ignite the civil rights movement in North America.

A CBC and BET+ original series, THE PORTER is originated and created by Arnold Pinnock (Altered Carbon, Travelers) and Bruce Ramsay (19-2, Cardinal), with Annmarie Morais (Killjoys, Ransom, American Soul)Marsha Greene (Ten Days In The Valley, Mary Kills People) and Aubrey Nealon (Snowpiercer, Cardinal), and produced by Winnipeg-based Inferno Pictures Inc. and Sphere Media’s Sienna Films. Morais and Greene are showrunners and executive producers. Charles Officer (Akilla’s Escape, Coronerand R.T. Thorne (Blindspot, Utopia Falls) will direct the series, and are executive producers. Pinnock also serves as an executive producer, and Ramsay a co-executive producer. The series is written by Morais, Greene, Andrew Burrows-Trotman, Priscilla White, Pinnock and Ramsay, with Thorne participating in the writers’ room. The series is funded with the support of the Canada Media Fund and Manitoba Film & Music and is distributed internationally by Abacus Media Rights (AMR) and Sphere Distribution.

New Canadian Survey Reveals One in 10 Canadians Claim to Have Stayed in a Haunted Hotel; Nearly Half Have Felt the Presence of a Ghost

T+E, Canada’s home of paranormal programming, takes the pulse of Canadians in a national survey on paranormal experiences as Hotel Paranormal, Season 2 premieres Friday, July 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT

Emmy® Award-winning and Oscar®-nominated actor Dan Aykroyd returns as narrator on Hotel Paranormal, delivering more scares, real-life ghost stories and shocking video evidence

Teaser trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFc4NTTD9LQ

(Toronto, ON – June 9, 2021) – A national survey, commissioned by Canada’s leading paranormal television broadcaster T+E and conducted by market research firm Ipsos, reveals nearly half of Canadians (46%) believe in ghosts. Of the 1,000 Canadians polled, one in 10 have checked in to a haunted hotel, motel, inn or rental, with nearly half of guests (45%) claiming they had a spooky paranormal experience during their stay. A further two in 10 (21%) said they would “absolutely” want to stay in a haunted hotel.

The survey was commissioned by T+E to celebrate the second installment of the broadcaster’s #1-rated, original series Hotel Paranormal, narrated by Emmy® Award-winning and Oscar®-nominated actor Dan Aykroyd, who is a firm believer in the paranormal. Season 2 ramps up the scares with more bone-chilling real-life stories of otherworldly run-ins told from stays at grand hotels, highway motels and short-term rentals around the world. The world broadcast premiere of Hotel Paranormal, Season 2 airs Friday, July 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, exclusively on T+E.

The survey results also revealed Gen X’ers (55%) and Millennials (52%) are the most likely to believe in ghosts, followed closely by Gen Z (49%), while only one in three Boomers (33%) say they believe. Across the country, Albertans are the most likely to believe in the supernatural: nearly six in 10 (57%) say they believe in ghosts, placing them well ahead of BC (39%) and Ontario (42%). Roughly half of those in the Prairies (49%), Quebec (48%) and Atlantic Canada (50%) say they believe in ghosts. Overall, just one in three (34%) Canadians are firm ghost skeptics, with two in 10 (20%) unsure what to believe.

“What makes Hotel Paranormal so unnerving and entertaining is that these are all documented real-life encounters – and the new season has even more scary stories to share than the first,” says Dan Aykroyd. “These eyewitnesses are very believable; you can tell they really went through something that still haunts them to this day.”

Saloon Media’s Sarah Zammit, Series Producer for Hotel Paranormal, Season 2, found the survey results to be in line with the eyewitness interviews and research they conducted during production. In fact, several members of the production crew reported experiencing paranormal events during filming on location in an Ontario hotel, one reputed to be haunted – from an old bullet casting appearing in a room during the night, mysterious words appearing in a mirror and a shadow figure terrifying one crew member out of their sleep.

Audiences who watch the Hotel Paranormal, Season 2 premiere on Friday, July 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, will witness everyday people reveal their terrifying encounters with the presence of ghosts, supernatural beings and even demons, as they share their remarkable stories, and in some cases, reveal the evidence they captured on camera.

Many Canadians have actively taken matters into their own hands to contact spirits from beyond the grave. At some point, nearly half (45%) have either used a Ouija board (32%), consulted a psychic (20%) or a medium (11%), or participated in a séance (4%). Among those who believe in ghosts, six in ten (60%) have tried at least one of these methods of connecting with the other side, with Ouija boards (40%) and psychics (30%) being the most popular.

“The fact that one in 10 Canadians have stayed in a haunted hotel and nearly half of Canadians have felt the presence of a ghost is very exciting, as it shows you have a good chance of witnessing something spooky. Hotel walls hold so many stories, and not all of them are good, so they’re the perfect place for an unrested soul to dwell,” says Paranormal Expert and World-Renowned Psychic Medium, Deborah Louise Levin.

There is no shortage of famous ghosts and when it comes to hotels, a number of guest rooms around the world may be haunted by the spirits of celebrities who have passed away within their walls. One in four Canadians said they would want to “meet” the ghost of beloved Canadian actor and comedian John Candy if given the chance. Rock legends Jimi Hendrix (12%) and Janis Joplin (10%) are next in line, followed by iconic fashion designer Coco Chanel (7%) and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (6%).

Hotel Paranormal is produced by Saloon Media, a Blue Ant Studios companyMichael Kot and Betty Orr serve as Executive Producers. Sarah Zammit is the Series Producer. Dave Tebby and Simone Stock are Directors and Josh Pelham is the Director of Photography. Michael Allcock is the Narration Writer. Overseeing the series for T+E is Sam Linton, Head of Original Content for Blue Ant Media’s Canadian channels. Blue Ant International oversees international licensing for Hotel Paranormal, Seasons 1 and 2.
