PRESS RELEASE: CBC Launches Free Streaming Channel CBC Comedy

FAST channel CBC COMEDY offers the best of CBC’s hit original comedy, now streaming on CBC Gem 24/7


September 27, 2023 — CBC today launched CBC COMEDY, a free 24/7 ad-supported streaming (FAST) channel featuring CBC’s acclaimed original comedy series, sketch shows and stand-up specials, past and present. The new channel is now available on CBC Gem, and will also launch on LG Channels, The Roku Channel and Samsung TV Plus later this fall. 


CBC COMEDY is our new go-to destination for the best comedy Canada has to offer, providing free, nonstop access to CBC’s acclaimed library of comedy from authentic original voices, and sketch and stand-up that reflects the times with satire and wit,” said Sally Catto, General Manager, Entertainment, Factual & Sports, CBC. 


CBC COMEDY is now streaming CBC’s slate of world-class, character-driven comedies including global hits Kim’s Convenience and the Emmy Award™-winning Schitt’s Creekheartwarming, personal comedies Run the Burbs and Son of a Critch from Andrew Phung and Mark Critchand workplace comedies Mr. D and Strays.


CBC’s groundbreaking sketch and stand-up is also available on CBC COMEDY including innovative series TallBoyz and Baroness von Sketch Show and CBC stand-up specials showcasing comedians across the country Comedy Night with Rick MercerHalifax Comedy FestivalThe New Wave of Standup and Winnipeg Comedy Festival.


The newest seasons of ongoing CBC comedies will continue to stream exclusively on CBC Gem. 


CBC COMEDY joins CBC NEWS EXPLORE as part of CBC’s FAST channel lineup, and launching next year, CBC NEWS BC will offer local news on the biggest stories of the day from the west coast of the country. Additional local CBC News streaming channels will be available soon on connected TVs, the CBC News App and CBC Gem


CBC Gem is available free as an app for iOS and Android devices, online at CBCGem.ca, and on TV screens via Roku, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Xbox.
