Editor's Note: It's about time Canadians get a streaming rival to the big cable companies here in this country. RiverTV is a great budget-friendly cable-TV alternative if you still want all of your favorite channels without the big bill. The big selling point for me about RiverTV is the 3-day to 7-day 'look back' feature on most channels; I've found myself catching up on some of my favorite supernatural shows from the T+E channel. Global TV and CHCH are Canadian staples, so Canadians will still be able to get their national news and information, and there's plenty of episodes available on-demand from most of the channels carried by RiverTV. I am still waiting for more channels from the entertainment groups that licenses their networks to this platform, plus a carriage agreement from CBC could really make RiverTV a top-notch streaming service for Canadian cord-cutters looking to stream their favorite cable channels on a budget. Overall though, it's worth exploring RiverTV with a 7-day trial, you might find it surprisingly good. I give RiverTV a B+ review. -GB.

Editor's Note: The description says it all. The only drawback is that RiverTV does not yet have access to unlocking content using a subscription login. However, for completely free access to Global News 24/7 and free access to episodes for the first 7 days after they air on TV, I give Global TV a A- review. -GB

The Roku Channel
Developed by: Roku
The Roku Channel is your home for free TV. Watch an ever-changing selection of hit movies, TV shows, 24/7 live news (in U.S. and Canada only) and popular kids’ entertainment —all totally free. Choose from thousands of entertainment options on-demand, with no subscriptions, purchases or rentals required. The Roku Channel is also the portal for great free 24/7 live TV with the following channels:

Editor's Note: The Roku Channel is very good, but it could be so much greater considering it's twin across the border in the U.S. is a lot more full-featured than it is here in Canada. There are only 15 channels in the current Live TV lineup on the Roku Channel in Canada (compared to over 40 PLUS a live cable-box-like TV screen guide for the U.S. version), but it's still a great must-have app to install on any Roku device. Thank goodness for a great selection of classic library movies and TV series available on-demand that fill the gap for the lack of live channels. C- overall. -GB
