Timeline and original reports of the 2020 Presidential Debates and Election events:

The debate calendar:

Democratic nominee Joe Biden and President Donald Trump were set to square off in three televised debates (as well as one vice presidential debate between California Sen. Kamala Harris and Vice President Mike Pence, on Wednesday, October 7).

All debates were scheduled to take place from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. ET on their respective dates without commercial breaks.

The first and third presidential debates were expected to follow the same format, with six approximately 15-minute long segments devoted to distinct topics. Topics were announced a week before each debate.

The first Presidential debate was moderated by Chris Wallace (Fox News Sunday). This debate was held from Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.

The sole vice-presidential debate between Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris was held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, split into nine segments, each lasting approximately 10 minutes. USA Today's Washington Bureau Chief Susan Page moderated. This debate was broadcast from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

The second presidential debate is in the Town Hall format, in Miami, where residents will pose questions to the candidates. Meanwhile, a moderator will keep things on the rails and manage follow-up questions. - The event had been scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2020; it was subsequently cancelled and replaced by individual town halls:

Reported by CNN News on October 14, 2020: "President Donald Trump will participate in a town hall with NBC News on Thursday night, setting up a competing television event with Joe Biden in lieu of a presidential debate in which voters would have seen both presidential candidates engage with each other and discuss issues head-to-head. Biden is set to appear in an ABC town hall, and both events are scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. The two were originally scheduled to participate in a second debate, but the event was eventually canceled after Trump objected to the virtual format announced by the Commission on Presidential Debates in light of Trump's positive coronavirus diagnosis."

The third Trump vs Biden debate was held on Thursday, Oct. 22. Kristen Welker (Today, NBC News) moderated from Belmont University in Nashville.
